Whippersnappers

Whippersnappers is a vibrant, inclusive, community organisation which works out of Brockwell Lido in Brockwell Park and College Lodge in Dulwich Park.

Here is a list of upcoming events that they are delivering that children and teenagers with additional needs  in Southwark can access (details below)

• Inclusive Singing Classes for 8 – 13 year olds

Venue: College Lodge

Dates: Every Monday from 4.30 – 5.30 (term-time only)

• Inclusive Cookery Classes for 12 – 19 year olds

Venue: College Lodge

Dates: Starting in May 2012 (term-time only)

Fully accessible kitchen.

•  Half term Inclusive Funday for 12 – 19 year olds Friday 8^th June 11am – 3pm at College Lodge. Please call to book a place
• Art and Drama Therapy club  for 5 – 11 year olds at College Lodge – Weds 3.30pm – 6pm referrals only -  funded by Children in Need.
• Under-fives Inclusive Music Workshops

Venue: College Lodge and Brockwell Lido

Dates: Monday – Saturday (term-time only)

• Inclusive Summer Playscheme

Venue: Brockwell Lido and College Lodge

Dates: Mon 30^th July – Fri 10^th Aug.

The scheme has availability for a number of FREE half-day one-to-one supported places for children with disabilities funded by Help A London Child. Please call 0207 738 6633 for further details.

• The Inclusive Games Art Exhibition – A photographic Exhibition with the theme of celebrating sport and The Olympic Games – Works that feature include photographers at The London College of Communication and students from Micheal Tippett, The Livity and Turney School. Everybody welcome.

Venue: College Lodge

Dates: Private Views on Sunday 15 April and Sunday 22^nd April with drumming, children’s entertainment and refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Whippersnappers also runs an inclusive after-school club at Brockwell Lido for 5 – 11 year olds. Activities include Acrobatics, Capoeira, Arts and Crafts, Cookery, Park Activities and Cinema Club. If you would like to access this service please call 0207 738 66 33.

Whippersnappers are now developing new services at College Lodge and looking at ways to fund more activities. They would welcome feedback and suggestions from parents/carers of children and teenagers with additional needs.

They are currently working to encourage more partnership work with Southwark Council and to find ways to fill some of the gaps in services for children with disabilities.

Thanks to funding from short breaks for children with disabilities College Lodge can also be used as a  community resource by parent groups and community organisations for activities for or related to children with additional needs – this service is underused at the moment, so any parents, groups or organisations that would like to use the resource please email [email protected].

Whippersnappers also deliver disability awareness training to children centres, afterschool clubs, youth centres,community organisations and private businesses.
