Carers Trust and Olswang LLP win Third Sector Business Charity Award
Carers Trust and Olswang LLP, a UK-headquartered law firm, were delighted to be announced as the winner of the Best Partnership in the Legal Sector at the Third Sector Business Charity Awards on Wednesday night.
With support from Carers Trust, Olswang have raised over £80,000 already through individual and firm wide initiatives, including a 375km cycle ride between our Brussels and Paris offices.
The majority of their fundraisers have exceeded previous amounts raised and they are on track to beat the £100,000 target for the 2 year partnership. The partnership is funding Carers Trust’s core work and contributes to supporting some of the 471,000 carers we reach each year.
On top of this amazing financial contribution, Olswang has provided over £177,000 worth of pro bono legal advice to Carers Trust and our partner carers services. The firm has also provided free meeting room space to Carers Trust, saving the organisation just over £15,000.
Olswang’s staff have engaged with volunteering activities, spending 297 hours of their time supporting Carers Trust and its partner carers services during the first year of the partnership alone. Examples of volunteering include a training day delivered by Olswang’s Media Litigation team about media law for charities, an employee who joined a local carers centre as Trustee, and the Olswang choir who performed at several events for Carers Trust.
Olswang’s Head of Corporate Responsibility Linda Zell commented: “We are absolutely delighted that our partnership with Carers Trust has been recognised for its impact and success. Our alliance has involved the entire firm and is a real testament to a huge team effort and genuine partnership with Carers Trust. Through our collaboration over the past two years, we have made real inroads toward raising awareness of this important charity and shedding light on the startling number of unpaid carers in the UK. We hope that our partnership and the funds raised through it will go a long way to help the Carers Trust’s many projects and allow it to carry on its great work in the years to come”.
Sarah Walsh, Senior Corporate Fundraising Manager at Carers Trust, said: “This partnership has been outstanding from the outset. The money raised by Olswang’s employees has made an incredible difference to the work we do to help unpaid carers and, from that point of view, the partnership has been fantastic. But what has really made this partnership special for us is that the firm has helped us to save our vital resources, by providing pro bono support and free meeting rooms and training to ensure that more of the money we raise can go directly on benefiting carers. We’re thrilled that this partnership and the amazing contribution made by everyone at Olswang over the past two years has been recognised through this award.â€
Carers Trust was also shortlisted for the Charity Partnership – Fashion, Retail & Leisure award for their partnership with the Rank Group which raised an incredible £1 million over 2 years.
