New Community Youth Choir

Southwark Music Service is working in partnership with the David Idowu Foundation to set up

“The David Idowu Choir”

The David Idowu Foundation was founded in loving memory of David Olawale Idowu who lost his life to knife crime in 2008.  Working with SMS, the aim is to form a choir that brings together the most talented singers from the different schools across the borough in David’s memory. David was stabbed in the park in front of his home and died twenty days later.  Even more tragically, it was later discovered that the only reason David was targeted was he attended another school.

The foundation works closely with families and young people, educating them on the subject of the dangers surrounding knife and gun crime and the consequences of negative behaviours.

The David Idowu Choir will be run by professional vocal coaches working in a variety of musical styles.  The choir will bring together pupils from schools across Southwark.
