Supported holidays available for people with MS and their carers
Carers Trust with Crossroads Care Schemes are working in partnership with the MS Society to offer supported holidays for people with MS and their carers who wish to holiday in mainstream hotels and guest houses.
This partnership developed from a pilot delivered by Crossroads Care schemes in parts of East Anglia, the South Coast and Wales during 2012/13 and is now being rolled out across our national network.
Intending holiday makers simply need to contact their nearest Crossroads Care scheme for an assessment of care support needs, using the usual Crossroads Care format. The scheme should invoice the family £30 for the assessment and documentation which the family is then responsible for supplying to the destination scheme.
Holiday makers then contact their ‘destination’ scheme, provide the care assessment and check that their support needs can be available on the dates they want.  They will also ask the scheme to visit the intended accommodation for a risk assessment, for which a further £30 fee is charged.
Holiday makers may then book the accommodation and any equipment hire and the destination scheme will make sure carer support workers are available at agreed times of day.
